The Mother of All Gifts

Make your mom proud on Mother’s Day with these fashionable gift ideas...

GiftPlease put the “World’s Greatest Mom” coffee mug back on the shelf. She gave birth to you, packed your lunches and wiped your nose. You can do better than that. “Buying your mom a bouquet of lilies gets old,” says fashion consultant and founder of Busbee Style, Erin Busbee. “This year, try something more fun and fashionable. You can help add pizzazz to her spring and summer wardrobe by buying her some trendy pieces like a color-blocked sheath dress, a pastel pair of espadrilles or a printed blouse.”

Trendy clothing is great for some, but Busbee does advise staying away from pieces that might be a tough fit. “If she has a difficult body to fit, stay away from buying Mom clothes. For busty women, jackets can be hard to size and jeans are almost impossible, unless you know a specific designer and size that already work for her. If it has to be clothing, and you’re worried about size and fit, give her a gift card.”

Budget-minded, but nevertheless adoring children, can buy costume jewelry. “Try an antique or outlet store for one-of-a-kind pieces at a great price,” says Busbee. “A locket that can hang on a long chain is a great find. Put a picture of you and your siblings in the locket, to personalize the gift.”

If money is no object, Busbee likes fine jewelry. “It’s something moms are hesitant to buy for themselves,” she says. “Even a session with a fashion stylist could be what she needs to feel more confident, special and stylish.”
