Celeb Style: Emma Watson

This star’s style has grown up before our eyes...

Plaid shoeThe public first met Emma Watson when she debuted as young Hermione Granger in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. We then watched her grow into a cool, sophisticated starlet. “Emma’s style is a mixture of modern day Edie Sedgwick and Audrey Hepburn,” says wardrobe stylist and fashion expert Kim Maxwell, who has worked with television, music and film talent. “She has a slight edge, coupled with a sense of class and innocence, with a fun and flirty side.”

Whether wearing Rafael Lopez on the red carpet in London, Oscar de la Renta to a world premiere, or Marchesa at the MTV Movie Awards, Watson exudes star power; classic, modern and chic.

During the day, “she seems very comfortable,” says Maxwell. “She opts for a simple and laid back look in flats, sneakers or a military style boot with a dress, or a tee and shorts. She accessorizes with scarf or a chunky sweater. She can be edgier during the day, but even in heels and a mini, Emma keeps things classy.” Watson looks at home in any city in grungy plaids, vests and button-down blouses. She keeps makeup simple and light, emphasizing her youthful complexion, and an almost tomboyish charm. At night, she tends to slick back her hair and bare her shoulders.

The best way to put an Emma Watson spin on your own wardrobe is through classic, timeless pieces like items by Anthropoligie, Burberry or even, for the more budget conscious, The Gap. Grab some retro round-toed flats for day and, for night, our expert recommends you show a little skin in a “mini dress with a nice peep toe black heel.”
